Consultation & design work

Through more involved consultation and design work we help community groups and small businesses integrate mushroom growing into spaces and activities. Whether it's a garden, an under-used indoor space in a cafe or a community woodland, mushrooms can be integrated into a wide variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for pedagogical, ecological and commercial benefits.

The fact that mushrooms can be grown indoors and outdoors on a wide variety of media and using a broad range of techniques, means that they can be integrated into a diverse range of settings. Their utility and value is further enhanced by their ability to recycle waste and grow quickly throughout the year.

Examples of projects we have worked on or hope to work in the near future include:

  • Working with a market garden CSA project to diversify into mushroom cultivation to extend their productive season and use polytunnels in spring and autumn shoulders.

  • Building an indoor  ‘micro-farm’ in a community centre to produce mushrooms for their Cafe.

  • Working with community woodlands to integrate mushroom cultivation into their forestry plan, for biodiversity and community food security.

  • Developing educational and artistic installations that feature edible mushrooms

Some examples of past work are featured on our case studies page

Our approach

Our consultations  take attention to meet various needs, from productivity, to engagement and educational potential, budget and capacity to maintain.

Whichever avenue we decide to pursue our design process involves a primary consultation, bespoke training  and tailored  resources as well as on-going support visits and troubleshooting calls. We will also provide all the cultivation materials and spawn necessary although we hope to find arrangements where you can grow mushrooms on waste or organic matter produced on your site.
